Udi's Granola Bars
What happened Udi's? I loved you for so long and then you had to go and make these terrible granola bars.
I was SO excited to try the Udi's granola bars when I spotted them at Whole Foods. They looked just like the Quaker Oats granola bars, which I adored back in the day. I've had less than spectacular experiences with gluten-free granola bars in the past, but Udi's makes yummy cookies, brownies and decent bread, so I figured they must have really nailed the flavor of this gluten-free granola bar if they are putting it out in the market.
I was wrong.
I was hungry at work and picked up the granola bar thinking it would tide me over until lunch. I opened it, took a bite and promptly spit it out. Yes, it was THAT bad. I stared at it with a mixture of hatred and fear, like I was holding a King Cobra poised for another strike. Why Udi's, why?!
I'm still asking myself why. I still have the remaining 5 bars, as it preserving them will somehow improve their taste over time. Mostly it's because I'm cheap and the thought of throwing away a box of granola bars that cost me $5 really hurts me.
Or maybe I keep them as a reminder that even in our enlightened gluten-free world, there are still some products out there that suck.
